Contentment, Where Have You Gone?

This is a day that the Lord has made,

I will rejoice and be glad in it!

What a wonderful Wednesday! I know that might be hard to say right about now. You might be stressed out of your mind with deadlines, bills, house repairs, maybe the kids need new shoes and clothes, or maybe your marriage is in disrepair.

Darlin, I’ve been there too. Even this blog I’ve started wants to be the devil that breaks my joy. Don’t let it be so! Praise God for the toes on your feet if you can think of nothing else! These simple praises can lift your mood no matter how broken.

Contentment, Where Have You Gone?

It’s very hard to find contentment in this busy, material based world that we live in. Why aren’t the things we have enough? When will we truly be prosperous? If I could just get this raise… If I can just buy that house… If I can just drive that car… But once you get there, will you truly feel prosperous, will you be content with the things you have?

Looking back at the past 7 years of my marriage, I can say that my answer would be no. We started out in a 2 bed apartment making maybe 30k that year. Things were tight, but we looked ahead to a time where we would both have better jobs. Since those days, we have better jobs, our income has tripled, we live in a nice suburban home. But yet, we’re still thinking about what’s next. Have you had a similar experience?

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.

Hebrews 13:5

Here at Prosper in Faith, we strive to be stewards of God’s money. So yes, we will talk about money and finances, but how to use them as God commands, not as the world suggests.

As stewards of God’s money, let’s work towards contentment. Let’s work towards feeling prosperous in our current circumstances. Face it, is that Lexus SUV going to give you peace and joy? Not if it comes with a hefty monthly payment! Peace and joy come from the Lord.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:13

The next time you feel an overwhelming urge to splurge, say a prayer for the Lord to bring you peace of mind and contentment.

  1. I agree that it’s difficult to be content, it seems the more we have the more we want. Gratitude and a little faith can definitely go a long way!

  2. I think this post is a good reminder to stop at times and take in everything around you. So often people get so caught up in “what could be” that we take “what is” for granted. Thank you for sharing this post!
